The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Netherlands Development Finance Company (FMO) provided a $9.5 million financing to the company in 1998 to help the company expand its operations. However, the company has faced a number of difficulties in recent years, including depressed prices for shrimp. In 2006, the company’s management made extensive efforts, in coordination with IFC and FMO, to revitalize and turn around the company. Following a cash-constrained year of operations, the company was recently forced to suspend operations
IFC and FMO expect the shrimp farm emerge from this process as a competitive farm with a sustainable business without old debts, providing a positive contribution to the surrounding community and the economy of Belize
